Vice President of Finance

Elena Barberis, CPA, serves as the Vice President of Finance for both St. Mary’s Health Care System, Georgia, and Trinity Health Holy Cross Health, Florida.

Elena has spent the past 18 years in roles of increasing responsibility at health systems serving the Miami and Atlanta metro areas. In South Florida, Elena served as Vice President of Finance for Jackson Health System, where her career spanned over 11 years. Elena was part of a financial turnaround team to ensure financial reporting and integrity during a system ERP implementation. She also served as the system Budget Director, developing the system’s complex $2 billion annual operating budget; and Chief Financial Officer of Jackson North Medical Center, a 399 licensed-bed hospital during her tenure there. Elena also developed and oversaw a $1.6 billion multi-year capital plan that resulted in countless infrastructure projects, inpatient and outpatient facilities, a new rehabiliatation hospital, and a new hospital. In 2020, Elena and her family relocated to the Atlanta area and Elena joined Piedmont Healthcare briefly as their Executive Director of Finance, and most recently as Executive Director and Controller for Northeast Georgia Health System. At NGHS, Elena led the successful Workday ERP implementation for finance, oversaw the first Single Audit for grant reporting, and two bond issuances, and streamlined and in-sourced several processes, developing and training staff in-house.

Elena is a Certified Public Accountant in both Florida and Georgia and earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication and Political Science from the University of Miami and her Master of Science in Finance from Florida International University. She is a long-time member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association in Florida and now Georgia. She is also a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (CPA). She has also served as the Treasurer of various local boards.
