Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Schuck, a physician executive with more than two decades of progressive experience in healthcare leadership, joined St. Mary’s Health Care System on Nov. 13, 2023.

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Schuck’s areas of responsibility include Health Informatics, Medical Staff, Palliative Care, Performance Improvement, Risk Management and Hospital-Based Agreements. His role covers all of St. Mary’s healing ministry, including St. Mary’s three hospitals, medical group, the region’s first medical residency program, one of the state’s pioneering home health care/hospice services, Highland Hills Village retirement community, extensive outpatient services, and other facilities and service lines across Northeast Georgia.

Dr. Schuck came to St. Mary’s from HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital and HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital, where he served as CMO. Prior to his service with these two hospitals, he held CMO roles at HCA Florida West Hospital and in HCA Healthcare’s TriStar Division. He also served as the site medical director for pediatrics/emergency services at multiple facilities, including HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, HCA Florida Capital Hospital and HCA Florida West Hospital.

Prior to his service with HCA, Dr. Schuck led successful physician and urgent care practices and worked as a clinical instructor in pediatric emergency medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael in New Haven, Conn.

Joining St. Mary’s brought him back to Georgia. He graduated with honors from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, where he studied as an Air Force Health Professions Scholarship recipient. He then successfully completed a residency in pediatrics at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base/Dayton Children’s Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, before serving nearly 10 years in the United States Air Force.
