After a long and complex illness that kept her in the hospital for well over a year, Beverly Cobb received a standing ovation Friday, Feb. 3, as she left St. Mary’s Hospital to return home.
“I’m telling you, the people in this hospital have been so good to me, the doctors, the nurses, the techs, the people who bring the food, everybody. I have no complaints,” Beverly said shortly before her long-awaited discharge.
Beverly received a “Code Fanfare” as she left St. Mary’s 5th Floor Medical/Surgical Unit, where she has been receiving nursing and rehabilitation care for much of her long hospital stay. In the hours before her discharge, she enjoyed a steady stream of well-wishers, from surgical and nursing staff to hospital leaders.
“It’s bittersweet to go, because they have all become like family,” she said. “The people on this floor, I call them my Angel Warriors. They are out on the frontlines every day, and they have been wonderful to me.”
When the time came to go home, she turned a corner to see the hallway lined with cheering well-wishers. Overwhelmed, she stopped, tears welling, and told everyone how much they meant to her. Then she walked to the elevator, stopping often to hug and praise the staff members and colleagues who had cared for her.
“Nothing good happens without God’s hand in it, and y’all have been very, very good,” she said to the crowd as she reached the elevator lobby. “I feel really and truly blessed. God bless you all.”
We wish you all the best, Beverly. God bless you, too!
