St. Mary’s is celebrating more than 10 years being involved in the American Heart Association’s Barrow-Clarke-Oconee Heart Walk. The walk has always been a terrific way to get moving while socializing with friends, family, and coworkers. But it's so much more than a walk! Walking in the Heart Walk boosts your heart health AND your mental health and helps our community at the same time.

What is Heart Walk?

The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premier event for raising funds to save lives from this country’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers – heart disease and stroke.

When and where is this year’s walk?

The 2022 Barrow-Clarke-Oconee Heart Walk is on Thursday, Oct. 20. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. with the walk starting promptly at 6:30 p.m. This year the walk is located at Wire Park at 111 S. Barnett Shoals Road in Watkinsville. All ages and abilities are encouraged to attend this free event.

What will someone gain by being involved with the Heart Walk?

You will become part of a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. Physical and emotional health have never been more important than they are now! And joining the Heart Walk it is a great way to boost them both – all while making a huge impact in your community and saving lives.

This year, the American Heart Association funded 598 new research projects totaling $135.8 million, trained over 22 million people in CPR, and much more. Every dollar raised makes a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke.
