As Thanksgiving approaches, we're reminded of the tradition of celebrating gratitude. However, the essence of gratitude should extend beyond the holiday season; it should be a daily practice.

To be grateful means to show an appreciation of kindness or emotions of relief. Daily gratitude is simple: take a moment each day to reflect on the positive aspects of your day.

Many people feel pressured to come up with grand things to be grateful for every day, but in reality, gratitude is about celebrating minor accomplishments or moments. It can also be helpful to write these feelings down in a journal or an agenda, which will help you hold on to the feelings of gratitude.

A benefit of gratitude is that you may find its simplicity will diminish the effects of anxiety, pain, and doubt. When you shift your focus towards appreciation of what you already possess rather than focusing on what your life lacks, your life will slowly start to change before your eyes.

Gratitude teaches our brain to appreciate and retain happy experiences and thoughts while deflecting negative ones away. Adopting an attitude of gratitude can measurably improve your overall health and well-being.

Gratitude has many benefits, such as enhancing your optimism and creating a more positive perspective on life. It can also help strengthen relationships. As you become more attuned to people and the reasons that make you thankful every day, you will ultimately nurture those connections.

By teaching our minds to cherish and hold onto happy experiences and thoughts while deflecting negativity, gratitude is a powerful tool for improving our overall well-being and health.

We wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Thanksgiving. We are grateful that you choose St. Mary’s for your healthcare needs.
