St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital brings a level of care to the greater Greene County area that is second-to-none for a small, rural hospital in Georgia – or anywhere else. As Giving Tuesday nears, we want to introduce you to some of the colleagues who make that exceptional care possible.

Amanda Lanier was born and raised in Greene County, and she and her family still live on the family farm here in our community. She is a registered nurse and a team leader in our Emergency Department. She loves working in the “ED” (it’s much more than a room now; it’s a whole department!). It gives her joy to provide life-saving care to people from all across the rural communities we serve, right here, close to home.

She began her nursing career at St. Mary’s in Athens shortly after graduating from nursing school in 2006. When St. Mary’s acquired the hospital in Greensboro in 2012 and renamed it St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, she transferred to be closer to home, family, and the community she loves. She hopes someday to elevate the care she is able to provide by becoming a nurse practitioner with a focus in psychiatry or family medicine.

Amanda’s love of Good Sam goes deeper than work. Both her mother and grandmother were diagnosed with breast cancer at the same time. Their cancers were discovered because Good Sam has advanced mammography equipment, much of which has been made possible by donations to the St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation. That was a hard time for the family, Amanda notes, but both women are doing well now!

Amanda is very proud of Good Sam for its outreach work, especially in areas such as hypertension, diabetes, and breast cancer. She is also inspired by the Certified Nursing Assistant program at Greene County High School. Recently, she worked with two students from the program and encouraged them to pursue higher medical training. Her mentoring was a success: One of those students became a Licensed Practical Nurse and is working toward becoming an RN. The other has gone on to become an Emergency Medical Technician and plans to become a Paramedic.

Amanda is a great example of leadership and devotion to her colleagues and community. She is an inspiration to all of us. Thank you, Amanda!

Please help St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital continue to support colleagues like Amanda as they provide the essential services our community needs. On Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, make a donation to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Amanda’s honor.
