A primary care physician passionate about patients & community health!
Hello!
My name is Samantha Avoke, and I recently joined St. Mary’s Internal Medicine Associates. I was born in Pullman, Washington state, and relocated to Ghana with my parents around age 3, where l spent my formative years. My journey in medicine has taken me through various experiences that have shaped my passion for healthcare.
I earned my medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School, where my commitment to making a difference in the lives of patients began. I started my career as a medical officer in various hospitals across Ghana, giving me valuable insight into the diverse aspects of healthcare.
In 2017, I took a significant step in my academic journey by earning a master’s degree in public health from the Gillings Graduate School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. This experience broadened my perspective on healthcare, emphasizing the importance of addressing public health challenges.
Continuing to expand my knowledge and experience, I completed a one-year internal medicine internship and a three-year internal medicine residency at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. After graduating residency in 2019, I worked as a primary care physician in Covington before deciding to relocate to Oconee County to be closer to family.
At SIMA, I am dedicated to offering adult wellness and routine follow-up care for various conditions, along with treating acute care needs. I love practicing as a primary care physician, getting to know my patients, and helping them maximize their health and quality of life.
Beyond my role in delivering patient care, I am passionate about addressing health disparities in underserved populations, engaging in public health advocacy, exploring international/global medicine, and focusing on travel medicine. When I'm not practicing medicine, you can find me cooking in the kitchen, traveling to new places, spending quality time with my family, and occasionally unwinding with a good movie.
I am thrilled to be a part of the SIMA family, and I look forward to contributing to the health and well-being of our community.
