Severe Weather Preparedness Week Starts February 6
February 5, 2023Severe weather can happen at any point and time. It is important for you and your family to be prepared for severe weather.
The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency are partnering with the National Weather Service to encourage Georgians to better understand the threats related to severe weather. Severe Weather Preparedness Week focuses on one potential weather threat each day and how to better prepare in those scenarios to keep you and your family protected.
Spring is known as a period where tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, and lightning from severe thunderstorms can increase. The Severe Weather Preparedness Week will serve as a notice to review and understand emergency procedures to better prepare for any and all weather-related dangers.
The following days will focus on a different threat and methods of preparation. Listed below are the topics for each day.
- Monday, Feb. 6 – Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio Day
- Tuesday, Feb. 7 – Thunderstorm Safety
- Wednesday, Feb. 8 – Tornado Safety and PrepareAthon!
- Thursday, Feb. 9 – Lightning Safety
- Friday, Feb. 10 – Flood Safety
On Wednesday, February 8, Georgia residents, businesses, and schools are encouraged to take part in the Ready Georgia’s PrepareAthon! For Tornado Safety. This will be a statewide tornado drill at 9 a.m. For more information, visit https://gema.georgia.gov/tornado-drill-procedures.
