Volunteer Appreciation Week
April 26, 2023Our volunteers are special because they are motivated by a genuine desire to help others out of the goodness of their hearts.
At St. Mary’s, volunteers are a vital part of our teams in all three hospitals, our hospice program, St. Mary’s Auxiliary Thrift Store, and beyond. Our volunteers support all St. Mary’s patients, staff, and visitors by giving their time, expertise, and compassion. These individuals selflessly help others in need, and their contributions are immeasurable. During Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to thank our volunteers for all they have done and continue to do.
Why Volunteer with St. Mary's
Our volunteers are special because they are motivated by a genuine desire to help others out of the goodness of their hearts. Dedicating their time and energy to providing comfort and care to those in need, our volunteers understand the importance of their roles, and their actions reflect their commitment to making a difference in the lives of our patients and visitors.
Our volunteers are a friend to all who enter our doors, and it makes a huge difference. Our volunteers spend time with patients, engaging in conversation and providing a listening ear. These small acts of kindness provided by our loving volunteers make a significant impact on our patient's well-being.
How Does Volunteering Serve the Hospital Community?
Volunteers also diligently serve the staff by contributing to the smooth running of the hospital. Volunteers perform various tasks, from answering phones and greeting visitors to delivering mail and restocking supplies. Oftentimes, our volunteers go above and beyond what we ask of them, and the support is invaluable in ensuring that our hospitals run efficiently and that patients receive the best possible care.
What are Some of the Major Volunteer Activities at St. Mary's
Volunteering at the Auxiliary-run St. Mary’s Thrift Store as well as the gift shops in all three hospitals is another way our volunteers contribute to our St. Mary’s family. The success of our thrift store and gift shops is due to the efforts of our auxiliary volunteers. Our auxiliary volunteers dedicate their time to engaging with the Athens community and building relationships with all who visit our thrift store and gift shops.
Our auxiliary volunteers use their time serving in these areas to help foster a culture of care within our hospital and the broader community. Most importantly, our auxiliary volunteers improve the morale of staff, patients, and visitors by providing a sense of pride in St. Mary’s and our mission.
Hospice Volunteering
Hospice volunteers are the most fearless, respectable, and kind volunteers. By befriending patients and their families or helping our staff with office tasks, St. Mary’s hospice volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of others. Our hospice volunteers provide essential emotional, social, and spiritual support to patients and their families during difficult times.
This role can be deeply rewarding and fulfilling and allows our volunteers to give back to the community in a meaningful way. Our volunteers tell us that the experience has helped them grow as a person and gives them a sense of purpose and satisfaction.
What Is Required of Volunteers at St. Mary's?
One of the best qualities of our volunteers is the source of inspiration and positivity they provide for all staff, patients, and visitors. Our volunteers are asked to commit to a schedule and bring a positive attitude and infectious enthusiasm to their work – and they always do! We are so appreciative of the way our volunteers bring joy and lightness to our hospital environment.
Thank You, Volunteers!
Our volunteers are an integral part of the St. Mary’s community, and we appreciate them for their countless contributions. We are grateful for all that they do, and we recognize and appreciate their invaluable contributions to the St. Mary’s community. Our ministry is better because you are part of it!
