Franklin County native named St. Mary's pharmacy director
February 4, 2021Lavonia, Ga. – Donna Toney, a native of Franklin County and longtime pharmacy manager at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital, has been named director of pharmacy for all of St. Mary’s Health Care System, including its three hospitals in Lavonia, Athens and Greensboro.
“Donna has over 21 years of pharmacy management experience including responsibility for pharmacies in a multi-hospital system,” said Sacred Heart President and system Vice President of Operations Jeff English in announcing her appointment. “Not only is she a proven leader with the expertise to assume this larger role, she has deep personal knowledge of the communities we serve and their needs.”
Donna, who grew up in Royston, GA, is the daughter of Donald and Hazel David, and is married to Glenn Toney with 2 children: April Toney Breeden and Bethany Toney Moore. She graduated from Franklin County High School before earning her Associate degree in pre-pharmacy from Emmanuel College where she was the Valedictorian. She then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, summa cum laude, from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She was the first recipient of the Ty Cobb scholarship.
She began her career in pharmacy working as pharmacy manager at Rite Aid in Royston then served as a pharmacy consultant for Cobb Memorial Hospital and Long-Term Care Center in Royston. Her career continued to advance as she became system director of pharmacy for Ty Cobb Healthcare System in 1999 and then director of pharmacy for Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center in 2012. In 2015, when St. Mary’s acquired Ty Cobb Regional, she continued as manager of pharmacy for St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital.
