GREENSBORO, Ga. – Reynolds WGA18 golfers have been raising funds to help St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital provide no-cost mammograms in Greene County for many years. For the last five years, under the leadership of co-chairs Kathy Hudson and Kate Mathison and with support from committee members Deb Denney, Amy Hudson, Kathy Linney and Karla Valdez, the Chip in Fore a Cure (CIFAC) tournament has raised more than $225,000.
Kathy and Kate took the reins in 2020. Despite the difficulties of hosting a tournament in the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team was able to raise $23,100. Each year since, they have topped the previous year’s achievement by at least $10,000. This year, the tournament, which takes place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, raised $69,795, topping the previous year by $14,000. Looking back over the last 10 years, CIFAC and the Reynolds WGA18 have contributed almost $300,000 to Good Samaritan Hospital to advance breast health.
This year, 132 golfers enjoyed 18 holes of exceptional golf on Oct. 8 at Reynolds Lake Oconee. Afterward, participants were treated to a luncheon, featuring a short presentation by Brandiss Pearson, St. Mary’s Regional Director of Community Health and Well-Being. Pearson shared insights into some exciting projects coming to the region that will not only advance breast health but also recognize this group of generous golfers who are raising awareness.
The 2024 CIFAC tournament was supported by not only the golfers who participated but also by these sponsors:

“It takes a village to continue to set the bar higher and raise even more money each year to support breast health in the Lake Country,” said CIFAC Co-Chair Kathy Hudson. “It’s truly amazing and Kate and I couldn’t do this without the committee, sponsors, and the extended team who donated to make this possible.”
