St. Mary's Names Aaron James as Foundation Director
July 31, 2022Aaron James, a philanthropy professional with more than 20 years of experience in organizations such as the Rheumatology Research Foundation and the Georgia Aquarium, has been named director of St. Mary’s Health Care System Foundation.
In his new position, James will lead philanthropy and fundraising for the entire St. Mary’s ministry, including all three hospitals, hospice services, and other components of the system. He will also be the lead liaison with St. Mary’s Foundation boards and will work closely with Auxiliaries at the three hospitals.
“Aaron is a highly creative and results-driven professional with tremendous experience in non-profit philanthropy,” said Montez Carter, St. Mary’s Health Care System president and CEO. “He brings a deep passion for creating win-win situations that bring together philanthropists of all levels with worthwhile organizations such as St. Mary’s. We are very proud to have him as part of our team.”

James comes to St. Mary’s from Johns Creek, Ga., where he most recently served as vice president of philanthropy for the Rheumatology Research Foundation. In addition, James has held leadership positions with Growing Leaders, East Lake Foundation, Georgia Aquarium, and Mount Vernon School, all in Atlanta, and has consulted with Soccer in the Streets and the Captain Planet Foundation. His extensive community involvement includes service on the Atlanta Sports Council and the University of Georgia Board of Visitors.
James earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and his master’s degree in sports psychology from San Diego State University in California. He played soccer at San Diego State and was a 4-year Letterman and a 2-time team captain. He went on to become a graduate assistant coach at San Diego before serving as an assistant coach at Colorado State University-Pueblo, University of Evansville, and Drake University.
