Coumadin Clinic

St. Mary’s Health Care System's coumadin clinics specialize in outpatient blood thinning therapy with little or no waiting. The clinics serve anyone with a physician’s referral who needs close blood and medication monitoring.

With fast blood test results, patients meet with pharmacists for immediate counseling to quickly adjust medications. Close management of medications may prevent clotting issues that could lead to stroke, blood clots in the legs or lungs (venous thromboembolism or VTE) or pulmonary emboli (PE) following major surgery or joint replacement.

“This service helps patients who need their blood checked get into a clinic sooner, and it helps community physicians manage their patients,” says Alex Bogdanow, R.Ph., coumadin clinic pharmacist.

Located in the St. Mary’s Hospital Clinical Labs, these clinic measure the blood value (INR) to assess the effectiveness of coumadin, a blood thinner that affects the blood’s thinness and clotting properties.

Partnering with patient physicians, St. Mary’s coumadin therapy helps patients manage their conditions and other factors, such as diet and medications, affecting their blood.
