St. Mary’s Health Care System has identified transportation to be a significant social need, as well as a barrier that impacts patients’ overall health and well-being when a patient is unable access healthcare. This resource provides information on the available public transportation options by counties in the regional service area.

Regional Public Transportation Resources

Banks County

Banks County transit is available to all Banks County residents and provides may transportation services including doctor’s offices, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. inside and outside Banks County. To schedule a trip, call (706) 677-1835 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, at least 24 hours before. Wheelchair accessible and assistance can be requested.

$3.00 one-way to Homer, Lula, within Banks County; $4.00 one-way to Commerce, Cornelia, and Demorest
$8.00 one-way to Athens, Gainesville, Toccoa, Royston, or Jefferson
Rider will be charged an additional one way; Trip fare per hour after 1 hour of waiting

Barrow County

Clarke County

Athens Transit – “The Bus” – has an extensive route system across much of the county. In addition, Athens Transit operates a curb-to-curb, appointment-based service called The Lift for those with mobility impairments. Buses are equipped with bicycle racks. Athens Transit is currently fare free to all riders!

Elbert County

Monday-Friday 7:15 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Call (706) 283-2034 24 hours in advance. Available for all needs except bed rest.

Franklin County

Greene County

Call (706) 453-2321 to request transit services 24 hours in advance. Can accommodate with less notice, but not guaranteed. Wheelchair accessible. $3 for every one-way passenger trip inside City of Greensboro city limits, $4 each way outside city limits, $22 round trip to Athens.

Jackson County

Offers three 10-passenger vans, equipped with lifts. Call (706) 367-7433 to schedule a ride. Service is available anywhere inside Jackson County and from Jackson County to Clarke County.

Morgan County

The Morgan County Transit System provides public transportation for all persons. The purpose of this service is to enable those in Morgan County who do not have transportation, access to the grocery store, place of employment, doctors' appointments, etc. This service is available to anyone in Morgan County for trips within the county. Those wishing to take advantage of this service must make reservations by 4:45 p.m. the business day before they need transportation to guarantee service. Same-day trip requests will only be honored if space is available. Call to schedule transportation at (706) 342-4052. Our buses operate Monday – Friday. The first available pickup time is 6:00 a.m. and the last available pickup time is 5:15 p.m. Transportation to/from areas outside the City of Madison may be limited, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.

Inside city limits: $1.25 per trip (stop); outside city limits: $1.50 per trip (stop).
Offering trips to Covington every Monday and Wednesday for $16.00 round trip. Depart Madison at 8:15 a.m. and departs Covington at 3:00 p.m. Call (706) 342-4052 for more information and scheduling.

Putnam County

Call (706) 485-6355 at least 24 hours in advance to request service. Service area includes pickup and delivery in all of Putnam County and delivery to Baldwin and Greene County. Fare is $2 per passenger per one-way trip.

Social Circle

To arrange transit, text RIDE to (470) 900-3966 or call (770) 464-2953 at least 24 hours in advance. Buses are equipped with lifts and ramps and can assist passengers. The bus system is set up as an "on-demand" system which arranges for vehicles to pick-up and drop-off passengers within the city limits of Social Circle. The operating schedule for this service is Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except for city holidays when the service will not run. A one-way fare costs $1 inside the city limits. Once a day Monday-Friday in the morning, citizens can visit medical providers and government agencies in Monroe and Covington for a round-trip fare of $5. Please check with the dispatcher or the bus driver for pick-up and drop-off times.

Non-Profit Transportation Resources

Wheels of Hope

Provides low-cost transportation and hope to people who are visually impaired, disabled, or who no longer drive because of age or health issues. Intended for residents in Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties who do not have the ability to drive due to age, disability, or illness. A network of volunteers provides the rides on an as-needed basis. There is a $20 fare cap per round trip.
